JMitchell Bronzes canine sculptures draw on a lifetime of experience. Judy Mitchell has lived in the company of dogs all her life and has been sculpting since she was a small child. She has been fortunate to have been owned by some very special Weimaraners, including the first brother-sister Top Ten Show dogs and the first Champion Junior Hunter in Texas. Active in both the show ring and the field, she is also an AKC Hunt Test and Field Trial judge.
Having been told that the ears and tails of her clay dog pieces were fragile, Judy studied the art of lost-wax bronze at the Elisabet Ney Conversatory. Her bronzes have been juried into the prestigious Art Show at the Dog Show and are collected internationally. Her sculptures reflect the idiosyncrasies of dogs in their every day lives -- those moments that endear our dogs to us. Critics have labeled her work "lyrical, "engaging" and "full of whimsy."
Each of the pieces is truly one of a kind, created directly from wax and is individually titled, signed and numbered 1/1. Only the finest exotic hardwoods are used to create bases for these sculptures. Commissions for original sculptures are gladly accepted as are requests for new versions of sold pieces.
